Materials
what they’re made of
Named, not advertised
Every material in a Steffie’s is chosen for a job. Below is the full list, with what each one does and why we picked it.
RoamFoam™ EVA midsole
EVA (ethylene-vinyl acetate) is the foam family that goes inside running shoes. We use an athletic-grade specification — a higher-density formulation that holds its rebound through years of wear, not just first impressions. Full-length, full-foot. This is the piece that replaces the rigid plastic core inside conventional heels.
Suede upper
Soft, fine-grain calf suede. Sourced from European tanneries. Suede is forgiving — it molds to your foot from the first wear, which is part of why there’s no break-in period. It also takes color beautifully (the champagne metallic in Palace, the warm tan in Safari).
Leather lining
The inside of the shoe is fully lined in soft leather. Two reasons: leather breathes — the reason your feet don’t feel sealed in at hour eight — and it wicks moisture, which keeps the insole cleaner and the shoe smelling like nothing for far longer.
Insole fabric
A soft jersey over a thin layer of memory foam, sitting on top of the integrated metatarsal pad. Removable on most styles so you can air it out at the end of a long day. Replaceable through our team if it ever wears out.
Outsole
Solid rubber with linear grooves running the length of the sole. The grooves shed water on slick sidewalks and add quiet grip on marble lobby floors. Rubber gives you wear life that synthetic outsoles can’t match — a Steffie’s outsole is built to outlast its upper.
Heel structure
The sculpted wedge is a single piece of dense EVA bonded to the leather covering of the heel. No metal shank, no plastic core. That’s the engineering decision that makes the rest of the shoe possible.
Hardware
The micro-buckle and slide-hook on styles with an ankle strap are brass with a matte finish. Picked for the way they hold up to skin contact and travel without tarnishing.
Thread, glue, finishing
Nylon thread for structural stitching. Water-based glues throughout — not solvent-based. Finishing waxes applied by hand at the factory.
Where they’re made
Steffie’s are made by a small family-run factory partner with deep experience in women’s comfort footwear. Every pair is hand-finished — the kind of detail you see in the buckle alignment and the way the outsole sits flush against the upper.
What we don’t use
No rigid plastic heel cores. No metal shanks. No PFAS-based waterproof coatings.
Care & longevity
Materials this good last when you care for them. The care guide covers suede, leather, and the metallic finishes — a few minutes a month keeps a pair looking new through year three.
