Sustainability

built to last

Sustainability, honestly

We’re not a sustainability-first brand, and we won’t pretend to be. What we are is a brand that builds shoes meant to last several seasons of regular wear, with materials we’ve chosen for durability, and a small line we don’t turn over every quarter.

Here’s what that actually looks like.

Build something that lasts

The single most sustainable thing a shoe brand can do is build a shoe you keep wearing — one that doesn’t end up in a landfill at the end of season two. Steffie’s are engineered to outlast their category. The rubber outsole wears slow. The leather lining breathes and stays clean. The suede upper takes color and refurbishment well. The RoamFoam™ midsole holds its rebound for years, not months.

Hold a tight line

We carry a small line — a few core silhouettes, refreshed in seasonal colorways rather than reinvented every drop. We don’t do fast-fashion churn. We add a style when we’ve solved a problem, not when the calendar says it’s time.

Care, properly

A few minutes of care a month is the difference between a pair that lasts two years and one that lasts five. The care guide covers it.

What we don’t use

  • No rigid plastic heel cores (the part most commonly ends up in landfill intact when a heel breaks).
  • No PFAS-based water repellents.
  • No solvent-based glues. Water-based throughout.

The Biodiversity Collection

Between 2022 and 2024, we ran a five-style Biodiversity Collection that donated 10% of proceeds to wildlife and conservation partners — the North American Butterfly Association, the Houston Zoo, the World Wildlife Fund, and Toucan Rescue Ranch. The collection has been retired, but the partnerships set the tone for how we want to do this work: small, real, named.

What you can do

Wear them. Care for them. Tell us when something doesn’t hold up — we want to know.
